If you are just getting into skincare and have no idea where to start, DON'T WORRY! ITS NOT ROCKET SCIENCE! Although, there is a science behind skincare. The skin is apart of the integumentary system of the body, In simple terms, the skin is our largest organ and it needs to be nourished just as much as we eat, sleep, breathe, get dressed, brush our teeth, or do anything else in our daily lives. I will begin explaining the different products to use when beginning a skincare regimen.
1. Cleanser:
Based off my last blog about cleansers, a cleanser is the first step you would use when it comes to cleaning the face. I actually have had individuals come up to me and say "Well, why can't I use bar soap? Isn't it the same?" I will say no. Others might disagree with me but we can all agree to disagree. I say this because most cleansers unlike soap will not dry the face and the skin from your face is different from the skin on the rest of the body (especially the soles of the hands and feet). When choosing a proper cleanser, the best option to go with is one that is good for any or all skin types. Play it cool and safe if you aren't sure what kind of skin you are experiencing during said season. Once you find your "go to" cleanser, make sure you use with warm water when applying to the face. Side note- less is more. Don't waste product by using too much at one time. You will defeat the purpose of a proper cleansing technique and waste money in the process (especially if you cleanser is a luxury brand).

2. Toner:
Toners are really good for hydrating the skin as well as minimizing the appearance of large pores and protecting the skins barrier. A good starting toner is one that is composed of rosewater. Rosewater is very good at keeping the skin hydrated and in addition, it is also an anti-inflammatory; providing anti-aging properties to the skin. Side note- rosewater toners can be used as a setting spray for makeup. I will speak about that in another blog later on. Unlike cleansers, toners are meant to stay on the skin to let seep in and keep you hydrated.

3. Moisturizer
Think of a moisturizer as the icing that goes on top of the cake. In this case, the cake is your skin and it can't afford to be dried out due to the weather elements, or a rigorous day of activities. Finding a great moisturizer is just as essential as finding the right cleanser. If you have oily skin and you pick out a moisturizer for dry skin, guess what? You will give yourself a face full of blemishes. The best bet is to find a moisturizer that is good for all skin type and probably a water based face cream. Moisturizers are also kept on the skin and work in conjunction with the toner to protect the skins barrier. If you are applying your regimen for the morning, it would be best to apply a moisturizer with some SPF content (30-50 should do the trick) or you can use your SPF after you apply moisturizer (please keep in mind that not all SPF's are created equally). If you decide to apply SPF with you moisturizer it will protect you from the UVA and UVB rays of the sun. I will get into SPF at a later time for more advanced skincare options.
